eagles are sizzling going into holidays

On the same night Connecticut won its record-breaking 89th straight game, the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles had a celebration of their own.

After beating the Indiana Hoosiers 73-69 at home on Dec. 21, the Eagles headed into their two-week holiday break with a 9-0 record, their best start since they joined Division I in the 2007-2008 season. FGCU also won its 28th straight home game, which is the third best behind UConn and Stanford.

The Eagles beat Indiana in front of their largest crowd of the season -- 2,621 -- at Alico Arena. FGCU has played four home games and won all of them.

"It was a great atmosphere," FGCU coach Karl Smesko said in the Ft. Myers News-Press on Dec. 22. "It's good to come out on the winning end of it."

So far, FGCU is one of just six undefeated Division I women's basketball teams. The others are UConn, Duke, North Carolina, West Virginia and Arkansas. All five of those teams are in the top 25.

The Eagles are not in this week's polls. They received just one vote in the AP poll, making it the fourth time in program history received votes in the national poll. FGCU had a vote in the 2009-2010 AP Preseason Top 25 and picked up a vote in back-to-back weeks in the AP Top 25 to close out the season.

UConn, which beat Florida State on Dec. 21 to break the UCLA men's record of 88 straight wins, extended its winning streak to 90 games with an 85-42 win over Pacific on Tuesday. The Huskies play at Stanford on Thursday, hoping to enter the 2011 portion of their schedule with a 13-0 record.

Duke is ranked third at 12-0. The Blue Devils beat Xavier 46-45 on Dec. 21 in the battle of undefeated teams at Duke. Duke plays Temple at home on Thursday.

West Virginia is sixth at 12-0 after beating North Carolina Central on Dec. 21. The Mountaineers play St. Bonaventure on Thursday and Central Connecticut State on Sunday.

North Carolina is ranked 10th at 12-0. The Tar Heels beat College of Charleston 75-49 on Tuesday and are scheduled to play Gardner-Webb on New Year's Eve.

Arkansas, which is ranked 22nd, improved to 12-0 with an 88-47 win over Furman on Tuesday. The Razorbacks begin their SEC play on Sunday at Florida.

FGCU will return to the court on Jan. 3, when it begins its Atlantic Sun Conference home season against Belmont.

The Eagles began their season with back-to-back home victories over Seton Hall and Troy. Then, they traveled to Cancun during Thanksgiving weekend and pulled off wins over Virginia Tech and Montana in the Caribbean Challenge.

FGCU began its Atlantic Sun season with wins over North Florida and Jacksonville on Dec. 2 and 4 respectively. After an eight-day layoff, the Eagles returned on Dec. 12 with a road win over Troy.

On Dec. 15, FGCU beat Florida International 86-71 in its first home game in almost a month. Six days later, the Eagles had four players in double figures in their win over Indiana.

One of those players -- junior Courtney Chihil -- earned A-Sun Player of the Week honors. Chihil finished with 14 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds against Indiana. The 5-foot-8 guard from Tipp City, Ohio is averaging 8.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists.

Junior Kelsey Jacobson is the team's leading scorer with 13.6 points per game. Freshman Sarah Hansen is the team's top rebounder with six per game.

Senior Shannon Murphy is the Eagles' third leading scorer at 12.4 points per game. The team's other senior, Shavonne Butler, played all nine games off the bench and is averaging 2.7 points per game.

All 18 of FGCU's remaining regular season games are in conference play. In early March, the Eagles will play Seattle, Longwood and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in the FGCU Tournament.

Big jump: Even though they got last week off, the Arkansas Razorbacks jumped up three spots to 22nd in this week's polls, the biggest jump among the top 25 teams. Last week, Arkansas earned a No. 25 ranking after upsetting Oklahoma at home.

Welcome back, Texas: After spending last week out of the polls, the Texas Longhorns returned to the top 25 this week. Texas earned a No. 23 ranking after beating South Florida 83-65 on Dec. 20.

The Longhorns will take a 9-3 mark into the New Year after getting an 80-77 win over Cincinnati on Monday. Texas plays Sam Houston State on Sunday.

seminoles couldn't break "the streak"

The Florida State Seminoles are certainly glad to get out of New England.

First, the Seminoles were upset by Yale on the road on Saturday in New Haven, Conn. Then on Tuesday, they fell to Connecticut 93-62, extending the Huskies' winning streak to a record 89 games. Connecticut has the longest winning streak in college basketball -- men or women. It surpassed the 88-game winning streak set by the UCLA men's team in the early 1970s.

"It is unbelievable," Florida State coach Sue Semrau said in the Hartford Courant on Wednesday. "We tripped up at Yale and (Connecticut coach) Geno (Auriemma) said to me earlier today that that type of stuff happens all of the time, and it really does. When you put the streak in that type of perspective upsets happen all of the times and for them to not be upset during the streak is just amazing. It really is mind boggling."

Now, Florida State (9-3) is trying to snap a two-game losing streak. The Seminoles' next game will be on Dec. 28 against in-state rival Florida at Florida State.

Going into the New England trip, the Seminoles allowed an average of 54 points per game in 10 games. After the two games against Yale and UConn, Florida State gave up an average of 92 points per game, 91 against Yale and 93 against the Huskies. The Seminoles also lost back-to-back games for the first time this season.

The loss to Yale dropped Florida State to No. 22 in the polls. Yale snapped a seven-game losing streak in the win over the Seminoles.

The Bulldogs, who took a 2-6 record into the contest, led 55-42 at halftime and 64-54 at one point of the second half.

Three days later, the Seminoles trailed 54-27 to UConn and never recovered. Maya Moore scored 41 points to help the top-ranked Huskies to 11-0.

Alexa Deluzio was the only Florida State player to score in double figures in both games against Yale and UConn. She scored 17 against Yale and 16 against UConn.

After leading the Seminoles with 19 points in Saturday's game against Yale, senior Courtney Ward finished with eight against UConn. Junior Cierra Brevard was Florida State's high scorer with 19 points in Tuesday's game with the Huskies.

Florida State also lost to UConn for the fourth time in the last three seasons. A year ago, the Seminoles lost to the Huskies 90-50 in the Elite Eight at Dayton, Ohio. UConn went on to win its second straight national championship.

Florida State's next visit to New England will be on Jan. 27, when the Seminoles play at Boston College in an ACC contest.

Big jump: With the 91-71 win over Stanford last week, DePaul prevented Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer from getting her 800th coaching victory.

The win over helped the Blue Demons make the biggest jump among the top 25 teams in this week's polls. DePaul jumped six spots to No. 16.

The Blue Demons will take a 13-2 record into Christmas break. Arizona State snapped DePaul's 10-game winning streak with a 79-66 win on Tuesday.

Welcome aboard, Arkansas: After beating Oral Roberts and upsetting Oklahoma last week, the Arkansas Razorbacks enter this week's polls at No. 25. Arkansas is one of three SEC teams (the others are Tennessee and Kentucky) in this week's polls.

Arkansas improved to 11-0 with a 67-57 win over No. 15 Oklahoma on Sunday at home. The Razorbacks' next game will be against Furman on Dec. 28.

four teams look to shine this season

In the eve of this week's NCAA Division I Volleyball Championships in Kansas City, here's an update on four basketball teams -- California, USC, Penn State and Texas.

All of them have one thing in common -- they're enjoying winning records.

Penn State has the better record out of the four teams. The Nittany Lions are 9-2 after turning in back-to-back 95-point efforts against Army and Maine last week.

Cal, which is the defending WNIT champion, is 6-2. Texas and USC each have 5-3 records.

Penn State won its first five games -- including a 112-107 double overtime win over Dayton on Nov. 12 -- before losing to Green Bay in the Caribbean Challenge in Cancun over the Thanksgiving weekend. The Nittany Lions lost a heartbreaking, 113-104 overtime loss to Boston College on the road in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Since the loss to the Eagles, the Nittany Lions bounced back to beat Texas Tech, Army and Maine. They will take a three-game winning streak into Sunday's home game with Delaware. Penn State also has non-conference home games against Drexel (Dec. 21) and Bucknell (Dec. 28) before beginning its Big Ten season on Dec. 30 against Iowa at home.

The Nittany Lions have four players averaging in double figures. Julia Trogele, the team's only senior, is averaging 10 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Freshman Maggie Lucas is the team's leading scorer at 17 points per game.

"Having so many weapons on the offensive end has been really good for us," Penn State coach Coquese Washington said in the Penn State Daily Collegian on Dec. 10. "Now we just need to just turn some of that energy and focus on offense, we need to transfer it down to the defensive end of the floor."

Cal and Texas will head to Las Vegas this weekend. The Bears will play UT-Arlington and Texas Tech on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, in the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Tournament at South Point Casino. Texas plays three games in the Basketball Travelers Classic at UNLV -- SMU on Saturday, UNLV on Sunday and San Francisco on Monday.

Cal won all of its games at home and lost both of its games on the road. The Bears' last game was on Dec. 11, when they beat Long Beach State 82-56 at Berkeley.

The Bears have three players averaging in double figures, all of them are sophomores. DeNesha Stallworth is the leading scorer at 18 points per game. Layshia Clarendon is second at 15 points per game and Talia Caldwell is averaging 12.5 points per game.

Rachelle Federico and Rama N'diaye are the team's only seniors. Federico played all eight games off the bench.

Texas, which is ranked 23rd, has lost three of its last four games after starting off 4-0. The Longhorns lost 92-77 to Tennessee on Sunday in Austin. They lost all of three of their games to ranked teams.

The Longhorns received some good news on Wednesday. Redshirt senior Kristen Nash has returned to the team after receiving a medical redshirt for the 2006-07 season and plans to play with the Longhorns in Las Vegas this weekend.

"Kristen is going to give us experience and depth that we are lacking right now," Texas coach Gail Goestenkors said in a statement. "She's a great person and a tremendous asset to our program. We're excited to have her back."

Kathleen Nash, Kristen's younger sister, and Sarah Lancaster round out the senior class. Kathleen Nash is the team's leading scorer at 17.3 points per game and Lancaster is averaging 2.7 points per game in six games.

USC will play in the four-team USC Basketball Tournament this weekend at the Galen Center. The Trojans play Colorado on Saturday and play either Dayton or San Diego State on Sunday.

USC hasn't played since Dec. 5, when it beat North Carolina State 84-75 on the road.

The Trojans have four players averaging in double figures. Junior Briana Gilbreath is the leading scorer at 14.8 points per game. Junior Ashley Corral leads the team with 18 three-pointers and is averaging 13.9 points per game. Senior Jacki Gemelos is averaging 11.3 points per game and sophomore Christina Marinacci is averaging 10 points per game.
Big jump: Iowa and Maryland tied for the biggest jump among the top 25 teams this week. The Hawkeyes and Terrapins moved up three spots from last week's rankings.
Iowa moved up to No. 16 after beating in-state rival Iowa State 62-40 in the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series. The Hawkeyes are 9-
Maryland moved up to No. 19 after beating Loyola (Md.) and UMBC (University of Maryland-Baltimore County) last week. The Terrapins are also 9-1 and will play Delaware State 1 and return to action on Saturday with a road game against South Dakota State.on Sunday on the road.
Welcome aboard, Orange and Eagles: Syracuse and Boston College enter this week's polls at No. 24 and 25 respectively.
Syracuse improved to 8-0 after upsetting No. 6 Ohio State 75-66 at the Carrier Dome on Sunday. The Orange, who won all of their games at home, will play No. 2 Baylor in the Bahamas Sunsplash Shootout on Dec. 21.
Boston College is off to a 10-0 start after beating Holy Cross and Rutgers last week. The Eagles will play UNC-Wilmington on Sunday at home.

notre dame cruises past purdue

Sunday was a good day to be a Notre Dame women's sports fan.

First, the Notre Dame women's soccer team won its third national championship with a 1-0 win over Stanford in the championship match at Cary, N.C. Two hours later, the school's basketball team pulled off a 72-51 victory over in-state rival Purdue at Notre Dame.

Despite the win over Purdue, Notre Dame dropped two spots to 18th in this week's polls. On Wednesday, the Fighting Irish began their Big East season with a 79-43 victory over Providence. Notre Dame plays Creighton at home on Saturday.

The Fighting Irish played their 1,000th game in program history on Sunday against Purdue. Also, coach Muffet McGraw celebrated her birthday.

Notre Dame handed Purdue its second straight loss. The Boilermakers, who lost K.K. Houser to a knee injury and Drey Mingo to bacterial meningitis, won their first four games.

"They're physical," McGraw said in the Notre Dame Observer on Monday. "They work hard. Like us, they're still young and finding their way on their first road game, which was a struggle for them, but by the end of the year, (Purdue coach) Sharon (Versyp) is going to have them right where she wants them to be."

This year, the Notre Dame women's basketball team is looking to accomplish the same feat the women's soccer team did -- win a national title. The Fighting Irish won a national crown in 2001 in St. Louis.

A year ago, Notre Dame lost to Oklahoma in the regional semifinals. This year, the Fighting Irish lost five players to graduation, but return several key players, including sophomore Skylar Diggins, junior Natalie Novosel and seniors Becca Bruszewski, Brittany Mallory and Devereaux Peters. Peters and Bruszewski started and played all 10 games and Mallory played eight games and hit eight 3-pointers.

The Fighting Irish lost all three of games to ranked opponents. They fell to UCLA, Kentucky and Baylor, all three teams are ranked in the top 15.

Notre Dame won the WBCA Classic at home. The Fighting Irish also had wins over Morehead State and New Hampshire.

Notre Dame will head to Seattle on Dec. 29-30 to play games against Gonzaga and Loyola Marymount in the Seattle University Holiday Classic. The Fighting Irish play two-time defending champion Connecticut twice -- Jan. 8 at Notre Dame and Feb. 19 at UConn.

Big jump: After beating ranked teams Florida State and Texas last week, the Michigan State Spartans moved up 10 spots to No. 15 in this week's polls, the biggest jump among the top 25 teams.

With a 55-48 win over Milwaukee on Wednesday, Michigan State is 7-1. The Spartans will take a six-game winning streak into Friday's game with Western Michigan.

Michigan State beat Florida State 72-64 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge at Tallahassee, Florida on Dec. 1. Four days later, the Spartans beat Texas 71-57 in the Big 12/Big 10 Challenge at home.

"We think those are two teams that will be in the postseason mix though," Michigan State coach Suzy Merchant said in the State News on Tuesday. "We looked at them more as, if we can get these two, these are quality wins for RPI ranking."

Welcome aboard, Phoenix and Blue Demons: Green Bay and DePaul are the new teams in this week's poll.

Green Bay earned a No. 23 ranking after beating North Dakota 83-40 last week. The Phoenix are 7-0 and will play Southeast Missouri at home on Friday.

DePaul earned a No. 24 ranking after beating Illinois State and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville last week. The Blue Demons improved to 9-1 after beating Pittsburgh 67-51 on Tuesday. They play Loyola-Chicago on Thursday at home and travel to Northern Illinois on Saturday.

Seniors Kalisha Keane and Brittney Thomas played key roles in the Spartans' win over Florida State and Texas. Keane scored 20 points in both games against the Seminoles and Longhorns and Thomas had 14 points against Florida State and 13 against Texas.

hoyas bounce back to beat lady vols

The Georgetown Hoyas were involved in two of the biggest upsets of the 2010-11 season last week at the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands.

First, the No. 12 Hoyas lost to unranked Missouri 54-45 in their second game of the eight-team tournament on Nov. 26, the day after Thanksgiving.

That certainly didn't please Georgetown coach Terri Williams-Flournoy.

"I threatened them pretty good," Williams-Flournoy said in the Knoxville (Tenn.) News-Sentinel. "We can't choose when we're going to play hard and when we're not going to play hard. We're not that good."

It didn't the Hoyas long to bounce back from that disappointing loss to Mizzou. The next day, Georgetown pulled off an upset of its own, beating No. 4 Tennessee 69-58 in the championship game of the Paradise Jam.

"I'm not sure we would've come out as inspired against Tennessee if it wasn't for the wakeup call against Missouri," Georgetown senior Monica McNutt said in the Georgetown Hoya on Tuesday. "But to beat Tennessee, how many other college programs get to say that?"

Georgetown became the first team since Baylor in last year's regional semifinals in Memphis to beat the Lady Vols. The loss dropped Tennessee to No. 9 in this week's polls.

The Hoyas remain at No. 12. Georgetown is 6-1 and plays a home game against Richmond on Wednesday and travels to Wake Forest on Saturday.

Sophomore Sugar Rodgers is picking up right where she left off from her fabulous freshman season. She's the Hoyas' leading scorer at 16 points per game.

But so far, McNutt has been turning in a strong senior season, averaging 11.7 points per game with a team-high 14 three-pointers. McNutt averaged 15.6 points in three games of the Paradise Jam, including a season-high 24 against Georgia Tech in the opener on Thanksgiving. She scored in double figures in all three games.

The only senior on the Georgetown roster, McNutt is looking to average in double figures in scoring for the second straight year. Last year, she finished second to Rodgers in scoring at 11.2 points per game. The effort earned McNutt second-team all-Big East Conference honors.

McNutt is also setting her sights on helping the Hoyas finish with another solid season. Last year, Georgetown was 26-7 overall, 13-3 in Big East play and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

McNutt is playing with a Georgetown team with six juniors, four sophomores and two freshmen and is predicted to finish third in the Big East.

Big jump: Notre Dame, Iowa and St. John's tied for the biggest jump among the top 25 teams this week. Notre Dame moved from 18th to 16th with a 5-2 record, Iowa jumped from 20th to 18th with a 7-0 mark and St. John's moved from 22nd to 20th at 5-1.

Notre Dame finished 3-0 last week, all of them were in the WBCA Classic. The Fighting Irish beat Butler 85-54 on Sunday to win the WBCA Classic.

Iowa beat James Madison and Virginia Tech in the Caribbean Challenge at Cancun, Mexico last week to remain undefeated. St. John's got a pair of wins over Arkansas State and Nicholls State a week ago.

Welcome aboard, Huskers: Nebraska, which qualified for the Sweet 16 last winter, enters this week's poll at No. 24 after beating Washington State and Nebraska-Omaha last week. A day
after they entered the polls, the Huskers beat UNLV 65-41. Nebraska will take a 6-0 record into
its road game against Indiana on Sunday.

teams spend thanksgiving at cancun, virgin islands

This wasn't how the Purdue women's basketball team wanted to spend its Thanksgiving.

The Boilermakers were setting their sights on leaving the chilly Midwest and getting a chance to enjoy some nice weather and play basketball in Cancun.

But an illness by one of the players, junior Drey Mingo, put a dent to those plans. Mingo was hospitalized in serious but stable condition with meningitis, forcing Purdue to cancel its two games against Montana and Florida Gulf Coast in the Caribbean Challenge at Cancun.

"I'm not concerned about anything but Drey and our basketball team," Purdue coach Sharon Versyp said in the Lafayette (Ind.) Journal and Courier on Wednesday. "Basketball does not matter. It just brings us together."

So the Purdue team spent its Thanksgiving back in Indiana. The Boilermakers will get back in action on Thursday, when they play Maryland in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at home.

The 6-foot-2 Mingo is playing in her first full season with Purdue after sitting out last season due to NCAA transferred rules. She transferred to Purdue a year ago after playing a year at Maryland.

Mingo has been a valuable player for the Boilermakers in the early weeks of the basketball season. She averaged 17.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game in four games and helped Purdue get off to a 4-0 start. The Boilermakers won the Preseason WNIT last week, and Mingo was named to the all-tournament team.

While Mingo and the Boilermakers stayed home on Turkey Day, a total of 16 teams got to play games in the Caribbean Challenge and in the Paradise Jam at the Virgin Islands.

Even though Purdue took the day off, the Big Ten still turned in a strong showing on Thanksgiving, going 2-0. Iowa and Penn State won their opening games in the Caribbean Challenge on Thursday.

The Hawkeyes (6-0) came back from a 10-point, second-half deficit to beat James Madison 67-61. Iowa senior Kachine Alexander made eight of her nine free throws and finished with 18 points.

James Madison senior Dawn Evans was the highest scorer on Thanksgiving, finishing with 32 points with five 3-pointers. She boosted her season-scoring average to 27.3 points per game after four games.

After beating Utah 70-58, Penn State improved to 5-0, its best start in 14 years. Penn State junior Nikki Greene was one of three players who finished with a double-double on Thursday. She scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

The other two players who scored a double-double on Thanksgiving were from West Virginia. Seniors Liz Repella finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds and senior Madina Ali finished with 16 poins and 10 rebounds to lead the No. 10 Mountaineers (4-0) to a 62-49 win over No. 21 TCU in the opening game of the Paradise Jam. It was the only contest on Thursday with two ranked teams.

West Virginia wasn't the only Big East team that won on Turkey Day. No. 12 Georgetown got 24 points from senior Monica McNutt as it beat Georgia Tech 67-58 in the Paradise Jam. The Hoyas are 4-0.

Iowa State also improved to 4-0 on Thursday after beating Virginia 66-48 in the Paradise Jam. Kelsey Bolte, the Cyclones' lone senior, scored 15 points with three 3-pointers off the bench and became the program's seventh player to make 200 career treys. Bolte has 201 career 3-pointers.

Thanksgiving wasn't a good day for the ACC as it went 0-3. Besides Virginia and Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech also lost on Thursday. The Hokies lost to Florida Gulf Coast 73-65 in the Caribbean Challenge.

Missouri and Hartford finished in a tie for the lowest point total on Turkey Day with 44 points. Missouri lost to fourth-ranked Tennessee 82-44 in the Paradise Jam and Hartford lost 78-44 to Wisconsin-Green Bay in the Caribbean Challenge.

moore looks for more this season for huskies

After seeing Maya Moore score 20 points in the first half of the Connecticut-Baylor game on Tuesday, Geno Auriemma delivered a message to his team at halftime.

"They can stop watching Maya and get involved," the UConn coach said.

Well, the Huskies have to keep watching Moore and don't get involved. After March, women's basketball fans will not see Moore in a UConn uniform any more.

So in order to win its third consecutive championship and extend its long winning streak, UConn must continue to give Moore the ball more. So far, Moore is helping UConn get off to a 2-0 start and she has averaged 25.5 points in the two games.

Moore's college basketball career is coming to a close this winter. She's setting her sights on accomplishing the same thing UConn graduates Rebecco Lobo, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi and Tina Charles did -- end a career with a national championship.

Moore is also one of numerous seniors who also want to end their college basketball careers on top. North Carolina's Jessica Breland (she missed all of last year while receiving treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma), Iowa's Kachine Alexander, Xavier's Amber Harris and Ta'Shia Phillips, Tennessee's Angie Bjorklund, Kentucky's Victoria Dunlap, Ohio State's Jantel Lavender, Oklahoma's Danielle Robinson and Duke's Jasmine Thomas are among the others.

Moore already played for two national championship teams. She helped UConn beat Stanford in the 2010 national title game in San Antonio and Louisville in the 2009 championship game in St. Louis.

But Moore is still looking more this winter. In order to celebrate another national title, she has to do it with five freshmen, two sophomores and one junior on the UConn roster. Senior Lorin Dixon is the other senior on the team.

Moore also hopes that she doesn't celebrate her senior year with a loss. The last time she experienced a loss was at the end of her freshman year, when UConn lost to Stanford in the semifinals of the Final Four in Tampa, Fla.

With the 65-64 win over Baylor on Tuesday, the Huskies improved to 2-0 and extended their winning streak to 80 games. UConn is eight wins away from matching the record 88-game winning streak set by the UCLA men's squad.

But Tuesday's victory wasn't easy. The Huskies came back from an eight-point deficit in the second half and had two of their players foul out down the stretch.

"I was speechless," Moore said in the University of Connecticut's Daily Campus on Wednesday. "I was just proud of the way my teammates responded, that was a really big moment for us. I thought we responded to the test and we did just enough to get it."

Moore finished with 30 points against Baylor, bumping her career point total to 2,219, which ranks her third on the UConn all-time scoring list. The three-time All-American scored 21 points against Holy Cross in the Huskies' season opener on Sunday.

Connecticut has been ranked No. 1 for 45 straight weeks. Baylor was the first ranked team the Huskies played this year. UConn will play three more ranked teams before the New Year arrives -- Ohio State (Dec. 19), Florida State (Dec. 21) and Stanford (Dec. 30).

The Huskies are looking for another national championship to add to their already growing trophy case. UConn can tie Tennessee for the most national championships in women's basketball with eight if it wins it all again this year at Indianapolis.

That would be a great way to put an end to a great basketball career like Moore's.
